Goldie's Blog: Cats Cookout 2

by Staff Writer / Florida Panthers
It was quite a night in Sunrise on Tuesday. Big names were on hand for the summer's 2nd Cats Cookout and big numbers showed up. Hundreds of fans enjoyed the food and hockey fun  meeting current Panthers Nathan Horton, Stephen Weiss and Noah Welch. The trio signed autographs and took pictures with fans, mostly kids. My highlight of the night was former Panther Ray Sheppard, one of the all time good guys, meeting current Panther Nathan Horton. Sheppard told Nathan, "You are just like me, except you can skate!" Horton laughed and said thanks. Stephen Weiss said the Panthers have many players here in town working out on a daily basis. It is unofficially the earliest and best turnout for off-season workouts in memory. Seems like the players are serious about getting off to a good start next season, a problem that has plagued the team the past two years.

The night's big announcement was a reunion weekend and alumni game featuring the 1996 Cup finalist team. Bill Lindsay and Sheppard were there for the celebration as was broadcaster Dennis Potvin. The final weekend in July will feature a game at the BankAtlantic Center. Joining Sheppard and Lindsay will be John Vanbiesbrouck, Scott Mellanby, Paul Laus and many more former players. It will be great to see the guys back together again. They truly were a team in every sense , both on and off the ice.

Keep coming back to for information on the next Cats Cookout. They are a great time for the kids, a chance to buy tickets, meet players and eat for free!
