There will be no defending of the Memorial Cup for Michael Repik and the Vancouver Giants. Down 3-2 in the series to the Spokane Chiefs, the Giants lost Game 6 of their WHL Western Conference Semis by a score of 3-1 Monday night.
Spokane opened up the scoring with a goal late in the first period (18:10) and Vancouver would tie the score just over a period later, as Mario Bliznak scored at the 18:51 mark.
But Spokane found the game-winning goal with less than six minutes left in the game when Ondrej Roman netted his fifth of the post-season. The Chiefs then added the insurance empty net goal with 1:28 left in the game.
Spokane now faces the Tri-City Americans in the Kal Tire Western Conference Championship.
Repik was held off the scoresheet for the second straight game and was also a -1. He finished the playoffs with 11 points (5 goals, 6 assists) and was a +2 and had 18 penalty minutes.More Information
