SUNRISE, Fla. – The National Hockey League announced today that G Roberto Luongo has been named to the roster for the 2015 Honda NHL All-Star Game that will be held at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, on Sunday, Jan. 25. Other festivities during the All-Star weekend include the 2015 Honda NHL All-Star Skills Competition that will be held on Saturday, Jan. 24.

Luongo makes his fourth career NHL All-Star appearance (2004, 2007 & 2009). Luongo was named a starter in the 2008 All-Star game, but did not play in the contest. The Montreal, Quebec, native owns a 16-7-7 record with Florida this season and ranks tied for sixth in save percentage (.926) and ranks ninth in GAA (2.23). On Dec. 16, against the Washington Capitals, Luongo set a NHL record by making 15 saves in Florida’s record breaking 20-round shootout. With a win against the Vancouver Canucks on Jan. 8, Luongo tied G Dominik Hasek for 11th all-time in career wins by a goaltender (389).

Luongo played in the 2007 and 2009 NHL All-Star Games while representing Vancouver. In 2007, he stopped all 12 shots faced to win the goaltending event of the NHL All-Star Skills Competition. Prior to that, Luongo participated in the 2004 NHL All-Star Game while representing Florida, winning the goaltending event of the NHL All-Star Skills Competition by stopping 11 of 12 shots faced.

The National Hockey League also announced today that rookie D Aaron Ekblad has been selected to participate in the 2015 Honda NHL All-Star Skills Competition™. He is one of just six rookies chosen to participate. The first overall pick in the 2014 NHL Draft leads all rookie defensemen and Panthers defensemen with 23 points (5-18-23). Ekblad also ranks third in scoring among the league’s rookies and paces the Panthers with a +11 rating. The Windsor, Ontario, native has eclipsed Florida’s franchise assist (13) and overall point scoring (21) records, set by a rookie defensemen in a single season.
