Florida Panthers to Select 23rd Overall in the First Round of 2016 NHL Draft

SUNRISE, Fla. – The Florida Panthers currently own the 23rd overall draft selection in the 2016 NHL Draft, which takes place on Friday, June 24 at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, N.Y., and will be televised on NBC Sports Network (Sportsnet and TVA in Canada) beginning at 7:00 p.m. Rounds 2-7 will take place on Saturday, June 25, starting at 10 a.m. with NHL Network (Sportsnet in Canada) providing live coverage.

The Panthers own a total of six picks in the seven-round draft. It marks the second time that Florida has owned the 23rd overall selection in the NHL Draft. The Panthers selected defenseman Michael Matheson 23rd overall in the 2012 NHL Draft.

PANTHERS SELECTIONS IN THE 2016 NHL DRAFT

Round 1 – 23rd overall

Round 2 – 33rd* overall

Round 4 – 94th* and 114th overall

Round 6 – 174th and 175th* overall

*Florida acquired the Vancouver Canucks second-round pick (33rd overall), fourth-round pick (94th overall) and Jared McCann in exchange for Erik Gudbranson and a 2016 fifth-round pick (140th overall) originally from the New York Islanders.

*Florida acquired the Anaheim Ducks sixth-round pick (175th overall) in exchange for Brandon Pirri.

PANTHERS TO HOLD WATCH PARTY AT PANTHERS ICEDEN ON FRIDAY

The Florida Panthers official 2016 NHL Draft Watch Party will be held at the Panther Point Bar & Grill on Friday beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Panthers IceDen in Coral Springs, Fla. The event will include select new logo merchandise for sale, food and drink specials and there will be games and activities for kids. Open skate at the Panthers IceDen also begins at 8:30 p.m. on Friday for $14 and includes skate rentals.

WQAM TO BROADCAST LIVE AT NHL DRAFT

WQAM 560 AM will have live coverage of the NHL Draft beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Panthers broadcasters Randy Moller and Doug Plagens will host the coverage from Buffalo. WQAM will also have coverage from the draft from 10:00 a.m.– noon on Saturday.
