Florida Panthers Sign Forward Derek MacKenzie to a Two-Year Extension

SUNRISE, Fla. – Florida Panthers General Manager Tom Rowe announced today that the Panthers have signed forward Derek MacKenzie to a two-year contract extension. As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

“Derek is a leader on our team and a true professional,” said Rowe. “His experience, work ethic and character make him a respected presence on the ice and throughout our organization.”

The 35-year old MacKenzie recorded 13 points (6-7-13) in 64 games with Florida during the 2015-16 season and recorded one assist in six playoff games. MacKenzie led the team with a 54.8 faceoff win percentage during the regular season and led all Panthers forwards with 154 hits.

The 5-foot-11, 181-pound native of Sudbury, Ontario has played in 453 NHL games for Florida, Columbus (2007-14) and Atlanta (2001-07) recording 95 points (42-54-95). He has also recorded two points (1-1-2) in 12 NHL playoff games.

MacKenzie was originally selected by Atlanta in the fifth round (128th overall) of the 1999 NHL Draft.
