SUNRISE, FL – Sunrise Sports & Entertainment announced today that Florida Panthers prospect D Ian McCoshen has been selected to play for Team USA in the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship that takes place from Dec. 26, 2013 to Jan. 5, 2014, in Malmo, Sweden.
McCoshen, 18, was drafted by Florida in the second round (31st overall) in the 2013 National Hockey League Entry Draft. Born in Anaheim, CA, the Hudson, WI native has played in 16 games as a freshman for Boston College (Hockey East) this season, registering nine points (3-6-9) and 22 PIM.
Prior to playing at Boston College, McCoshen spent three years playing for the Waterloo Blackhawks (USHL; 2010-2013), recording 80 points (19-51-70) and 129 PIM in 150 games.
The United States begins defense of its gold medal against the Czech Republic Thursday (Dec. 26) at 5:30 p.m. (11:30 a.m. ET). The game will be televised live on NHL Network and streamed live on NHL.com.
