SUNRISE, Fla. - Florida Panthers Owner, Chairman and Governor Vincent J. Viola and Vice Chairman, Partner and Alternate Governor Douglas A. Cifu announced today the launch of the Florida Panthers Foundation Community Champions Grant Program. The program will allow charitable organizations throughout South Florida to request financial support for programs and initiatives that are benefitting our community.

Throughout the season, at each home game, the Foundation, will recognize and award one grant for up to $25,000 to a local organization. The organization must be a 501(c)(3) organization or government agency serving the South Florida area. Moss Construction and the Moss Foundation have partnered with the Panthers to be the presenting sponsor of the outreach initiative.

The program will begin tonight with the JDF16 Foundation being the first recipient of the 2016-17 season. Panthers captain Derek MacKenzie will present the JDF16 Foundation with a $35,000 donation on behalf of the players and Panthers Foundation. For opening night, the team will wear no.16 Jose Fernandez Panthers jerseys and helmet stickers during warm-ups to honor the legacy of Fernandez.

"South Florida and the Panthers are one team," said Viola. "The community has shown great commitment to the Panthers and we intend on continuing to do the very same for them. We are thrilled to unveil the Community Champions Grant Program and support local charities in their efforts to make a positive impact in South Florida."

The Florida Panthers Foundation focuses on building the game of hockey for children, supporting health and education initiatives for children, advocating for and supporting veterans' issues and raising awareness about the endangered Florida Panther.
