Foundation Raises over $10,000 during “The Weekend of the Rat”
SUNRISE, FL – During the month of July, the Florida Panthers Foundation raised over $11,000, including the highly profitable fundraising activities surrounding the Seminole Tribe of Florida ’96 Panthers Reunion Weekend.
The Foundation allowed fans to purchase the famous toy rats from the Panthers’ storied run to the 1996 Stanley Cup Finals during the ’96 Reunion Weekend. Additionally, the Foundation offered fans the opportunity to purchase various memorabilia including: Bill Lindsay and Valeri Bure bobbleheads, jerseys and posters from former Panthers players and more.
During the Cats Cookout on July 9, the Foundation hosted Panther Pops, a unique fundraising event that allowed fans to win impressive prizes by purchasing lollipops off of a lollipop tree. Winnings lollipops were marked with a colored stem and prizes included tickets to upcoming events at the BankAtlantic Center and signed memorabilia.
“We are deeply honored to have been allowed to take part in the Seminole Tribe of Florida ’96 Panthers Reunion Weekend by selling rats from the Cats’ miracle run to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1996,” said Executive Director Alaina Miller. “The staggering success of our fundraisers in the month of July allows us to focus our efforts on preparing for September’s Face-Off Luncheon presented by AvMed Health Plans.”
The Face-Off Luncheon presented by AvMed Health Plans and additionally sponsored by IKEA, is set for Monday, September 24, 2007 at the Woodfield County Club in Boca Raton. Registration will begin at 11:30 am and the luncheon will begin at 12:00 pm. The entire Florida Panthers team and coaching staff will be in attendance, making this event the first event of the season attended by the 2007-08 Florida Panthers.
The Florida Panthers Foundation supported various charities in July by donating over $20,000 worth of silent auction items, including Panthers tickets, concert tickets and signed memorabilia to the following organizations: • Christmas In July, including an appearance from Panthers RW Nathan Horton • St. Jude Children’s Hospital fundraiser, held at Dillard’s in the Galleria Mall, including an appearance by Panthers D Mike Van Ryn • Donation of a suite to the ’96 Reunion Game to SOS Children’s Village • Special Kids Network
Over the past year the Florida Panthers Foundation has donated Florida Panthers game tickets and auction items including team-signed jerseys and sticks and Zamboni rides to various South Florida charities. Recipients include: Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Broward County, American Cancer Society, JAFCO, Homestead Air Reserve, Soref JCC, Boys & Girls Club, Miami Disadvantaged Youth, Dept. of Naval Science, American Jewish Community, City of Plantation, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, H.O.P.E., Camelot Community Center, Stellar Kids, the Andy Roddick Foundation and Rock and Wrap It Up!.
