Foundation Partners with U.S. Marine Corps Reserve to Collect Toys
SUNRISE, Fla. – Sunrise Sports & Entertainment announced today that the Florida Panthers Foundation and U.S. Marine Corps have teamed up with the Florida Panthers wives and girlfriends to collect toys for the annual Toys for Tots program.
The Florida Panthers Foundation will be collecting new, unwrapped toys to donate to Toys for Tots on the Spirit Airlines Funway before Panthers home games on Nov. 23, Dec. 5, Dec. 7 and Dec. 11. Florida Panthers players’ wives and girlfriends will be on hand to collect all donated toys and the Marines will also be available to assist in the collection of toys.
“It is an honor to partner with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve to once again collect toys for children this holiday season,” said Foundation Executive Director Alaina Miller. “I would like to thank the Florida Panthers wives and girlfriends for assisting us in collecting toys. Their support is invaluable to us as we strive to make a positive impact on the South Florida community during this holiday season. We look forward to this program every year and hope that our fans will help us break last year’s record for toys collected.”
The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as holiday gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.
This year marks the 60th anniversary for the Toys for Tots tradition of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. During the 2006 Toys for Tots Campaign, local Toys for Tots Coordinators distributed 19.2 million toys to 7.6 million needy children. Concurrently, local campaigns were conducted in 558 communities covering all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands - the most extensive coverage ever. Over the 59 years of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program, Marines have distributed more than 370 million toys to more than 173 million needy children. This charitable endeavor has made the U.S. Marines the unchallenged leaders in looking after needy children during the holidays. Over its 16 year life span, the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation has supplemented local toy collections with more than 70.2 million toys valued at more than $387 million and has provided promotion and support materials valued at over $4.7 million.
