Florida Panthers Cats In The Classroom Spirit Day Winners Announced

by Staff Writer / Florida Panthers
SUNRISE, Fla. – Today the Florida Panthers announced the winning classroom in the 2009 Cats in the Classroom spirit competition. Ms. Mitzi Plunkett’s 8th Grade Business Education Class from Indian Ridge Middle School in Davie, Florida won this year’s contest with an outstanding project including a bulletin board, project binder, and video presentation.

Ms. Plunkett’s class created a Florida Panther’s Internet café and students designed the menu, activities, created videos and brought in food highlighting the Panthers rich history during the 1993 expansion, the 1996 Year of the Rat and current Panthers players. Each student helped to create their business plan, design the products, and market their classroom as a working internet café devoted to the Florida Panthers.

Ms. Plunkett was ecstatic upon hearing the news. “We are so excited to have won. Our class is in great need of a color printer and this award will make that possible. Thank you so much!”

The annual Cats in the Classroom contest is held every October around the time of the first home hockey game of the new season. Schools across South Florida from Jupiter to Key Largo participate in this spirit contest. This year’s contest received numerous entries and made the selection process very difficult. Ms. Plunkett’s class will receive a $500 check for classroom supplies and a visit by the Panthers mascot, Stanley C. Panther.
