Panthers defeat Ducks for third straight win on road

ANAHEIM-- The Florida Panthers won for the sixth time in seven games, 4-1 against the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center on Friday.
Florida (26-20-10) has won three straight to start a five-game road trip that continues Saturday at the Los Angeles Kings. James Reimer made 35 saves and allowed one goal in a win against Anaheim for the second time in two weeks (2-1 on Feb. 3).
"[Reimer] was huge. He bailed us out. He made a lot of great saves," Florida defenseman Keith Yandle said. "Our goaltending has been amazing this year. When we were missing guys, they were stealing games for us and they continue to do the same."

Anaheim (30-19-10) and Florida combined for four goals in the first 10:08 of the second period.

Andrew Cogliano scored shorthanded for the Ducks while Ondrej Kase was serving a tripping penalty for a 1-0 lead at 2:45.
Colton Sceviour tied it 1-1 at 4:18 following an Anaheim turnover at the red line. Derek MacKenzie dropped the puck to Sceviour, who skated into the high slot and scored with a wrist shot as MacKenzie screened goalie John Gibson.

"As a line, we felt pretty confident," Sceviour said. "We won the puck, created some turnovers and supported each other, which created a lot of chances throughout the game."
The Ducks made a defensive miscue that allowed Jaromir Jagr to make it 2-1 at 6:58. It was Jagr's 135th game-winning goal, extending his NHL record.
"He's been doing that since all of us were kids and he's continuing to do it," Yandle said. "He's been doing it for so long and he keeps producing and helping our team."
Aaron Ekblad made it 3-1 with a power-play goal at 10:08, shooting through traffic from the high slot on Florida's 16th shot.

Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said after the morning skate he hoped to keep the Panthers in their defensive zone as much as possible, and Anaheim did a good job of that early, owning a 7-3 edge in shots on goal midway through the first period. The Panthers picked up the pace in the second half of the first period and ended it with a 10-9 advantage.
"We need to get back to the things we can do," Carlyle said. "We score a shorthanded goal and you'd think the energy would turn in our favor."

Goal of the game

Anaheim defenseman Josh Manson started to bring the puck out from behind his net but overskated. Jagr came in behind Manson, stole the puck, spun and faced Gibson, and made several stick moves before scoring.
"Manson got caught," Cogliano said. "That was just an unlucky play."

Saves of the game

Sceviour swiped the puck away from Gibson as he was lunging forward to cover it. Sceviour had a large opening to aim for with Gibson sprawled on his front side, but Gibson used his outstretched left pad to knock away the first shot at 15:47 of the first period, then made three more pad saves in rapid succession.

Highlight of the game

Cogliano started the play that led to his goal by breaking up a pass at his blue line. The puck went to Logan Shaw, who passed ahead to Cogliano for a breakaway. He beat Reimer through his pads for his third shorthanded goal of the season, which is tied for the NHL lead.

Unsung performance of the game

MacKenzie assisted on Sceviour's goal and provided the screen. MacKenzie scored an empty-net goal and had a Panthers-high four hits playing 12:27 on the fourth line.

Jagr extended his point streak to four games (two goals, two assists). He became the second player to score a game-winning goal after turning 45 years old, which he did Wednesday. Chris Chelios scored his last game-winner for the Detroit Red Wings on Feb. 18, 2008, at age 46 (4-0 against the Colorado Avalanche), according to the Elias Sports Bureau. ... Florida forward Vincent Trocheck had an assist to extend his point streak to four games (two goals, four assists). ... Anaheim came in leading the NHL with a .544 faceoff-win percentage and won 37 of 51 (.725). ... Reimer is 7-1-1 in his past nine decisions with a 2.13 goals-against average and .930 save percentage. ... Cogliano extended his consecutive game streak to 763, 13 behind Craig Ramsay for fourth in NHL history.
