Scholarships will benefit local youth hockey initiatives

by Staff /

SUNRISE, Fla. - The Florida Panthers announced today that Florida Panthers Alumni Association has awarded $6,750 in new youth hockey scholarships for the Fall youth hockey travel season, supporting nine local travel hockey players in five travel/high school associations. The Panthers Alumni have donated well over $320,000 to youth hockey players and programs who could not afford the ice time and equipment required to otherwise play the game.

The awardees come from travel and high school programs around the South Florida area and were granted based on academic achievement, financial need and merit and community involvement, rather than their skills or talent on the ice.

"The Alumni Association's mission is to support and grow youth hockey in South Florida by assisting and creating the next generation of leaders both on and off the ice," said Alumni Association President Randy Moller. "We hope these scholarships will greatly help grow these young players passion for the game of hockey."

The Panthers Alumni Association grants scholarships twice a year, in September and December. This Fall period the players that were awarded the scholarship funds came from five travel/high school associations including the FSHL, Golden Wolves, Sharpshooters, Palm Beach Breakers and Palm Beach Blackhawks.
