SUNRISE, Fla. – Florida Panthers Executive VP & General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has agreed to terms with D Tom Gilbert on a one-year contract.
Gilbert, 30, has appeared in 447 National Hockey League games, with the Edmonton Oilers (2006-2012) and the Minnesota Wild (2012-2013), registering 176 points (36-140-176) and 132 PIM. Last season, Gilbert recorded 13 points (3-10-13) and 18 PIM for the Wild.
The Bloomington, MN native has recorded at least 25 points four times in his seven-year NHL playing career, including an NHL career best 45 points (5-40-45) during the 2008-2009 while playing for Edmonton. He also own Edmonton’s franchise record for most goals (13) scored by a rookie defenseman.
The 6-foot-3, 206-pound blueliner played four years of college hockey at the University of Wisconsin, where he helped lead the Badgers earn the 2006 NCAA title, scoring the game-winning goal against Boston College.
Gilbert was drafted by Colorado in the fourth round (129th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
