Dallas, TX – In a high scoring contest on Monday night at the American Airlines Center in Dallas the Florida Panthers fell 5-4 to the Stars. F Rocco Grimaldi recorded his first NHL Preseason goal, while F Scottie Upshall, F Quinton Howden and D Colby Robak also scored for the Cats.
The Panthers took an early 1-0 lead when Grimaldi deflected D Alex Petrovic’s shot past Dallas netminder Kari Lehtonen at 11:26. The Cats added to their advantage after Upshall drove to the net and recorded his first of the preseason at 15:10 into the opening frame.
Howden gave the Cats a 3-0 cushion we he took advantage of a Dallas turnover and slipped the puck through the pads of Lehtonen, just over two minutes in the middle period. The Stars responded with back-to-back goals less than a minute apart from F Valeri Nichushkin and F Jason Spezza. Dallas netted their third goal of the period when F Tyler Seguin found the back of the net at 14:10, to knot the game at 3-3.
Robak broke the tie early in the third period when he fired a shot past the glove of Dallas netminder Anders Lindback, who replaced Lehtonen.
Dallas' Seguin tallied two more late in the third period for the hat trick, giving the Stars the 5-4 victory.
Luongo stopped 23 of 28 shots.
The Panthers wrap up the 2014 preseason schedule with a home-and-home series against their intrastate rivals the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday, Oct. 2 at BB&T Center (7:30 p.m.) and in Tampa on Saturday, Oct. 4.
