Dancers Dialogue: Making The Squad

by Staff Writer / Florida Panthers
A new feature for, the Panthers Ice Dancers will be posting their thoughts throughout the year in their blog Dancers Dialogue. A different girl will fill everyone in on what's going on with the hottest dance team on the Ice.

Hey Panther Fans!

My name is Jenny, a natural red head ;) and one of your new Rookie Panthers Ice Dancers! I can’t even express how excited I am to be a part of this team and this amazing organization. More importantly, how excited I am to meet all of YOU at the home games! I’ve had quite an adventure so far and I can’t wait to see what else is to come.

I heard about auditions through a local radio station broadcast and I knew I had to come and give it a try (And good thing I did!). I attended one of the Prep Classes back in August and was really hoping to get the “Free Pass”. The Free Pass allows for one girl from each Prep Class to skip the first round of the audition process. Unfortunately, I didn’t actually get the Free Pass, but I didn’t let it stop me from getting what I really wanted... to perform in front of thousands of Panthers fans! The prep classes gave me only a small taste of what it would be like to be an Ice Dancer and I couldn't help but want more.

The day of the auditions quickly rolled around and my stomach was in knots from nerves and excitement. When I heard my name called as a Finalist, I couldn’t have been happier. I went into the week of boot camp ready for anything with my head held high. I practiced every chance I had so that I could really shine on the Final Audition Day at the Pembroke Lakes Mall.

The night before the finals I couldn’t even sleep! You know how it is, when you can’t stop thinking about something and you’re too nervous to sleep because of fear you might miss your wake up alarm….well that was me, ALL night!

I had prepared my solo routine for a long time and was excited when it was finally my turn to really stand out. Check out my solo performance here:
. All the girls were backstage and so nervous about the final announcements. I can’t even describe how I felt when they were reading out the numbers of the girls who made it. My heart would just stop before each number was announced and when I heard my number, I was so excited, I just wanted to cry!  As we were introduced as the new 2010-2011 Panthers Ice Dancers, I knew that the real hard work was just about to begin.

Our first practice was just a few days later…I was still so nervous. But, when I walked in, the Veterans were so welcoming and the new Rookies were just as anxious as I was. I knew that I was making a new family of friends and I can’t wait for the adventures that are to come with them!

Next up, our 2011 Calendar shoot at the gorgeous Fontainebleau in Miami Beach!

Come meet me and all the new Rookies in Section 127 on opening night, October 16th!
