Countdown 13: December 31st vs Montreal

by Staff Writer / Florida Panthers
The Panthers 2010-11 season is quickly approaching and with that, floridapanthers.com is taking a look at the top ten questions, players to watch and games of the season on a countdown to the home opener on October 16th against Tampa Bay. We'll unveil one of the top ten on a rotating basis each day to help fans get ready for what hopes to be an exciting season.

In today's topic, we take a closer look at the game against the Montreal Canadiens on December 31st in the Top 10 Games this season.

It's a festive atmosphere whenever Montreal visits Sunrise.

One of the original six teams, the Habs have a large following throughout Canada and the United States. Their fans pack the BankAtlantic Center and usually make the game feel more like an away game for the home team.

Montreal brings in a solid roster, one that returns a lot of its players that had them just two games away from the Stanley Cup finals. Led by forward Mike Cammalleri, Scott Gomez, Tomas Plekanec on the front end, Andrei Markov and youngster P.K. Subban on the back-end and Carey Price in between the pipes, the Habs have a pretty formidable line-up.

If that's not enough for Panthers fans, then you can look at former Cats now with the Habs in defenseman Jaroslav Spacek, goaltender Alex Auld and head coach Jacques Martin.

The Panthers have had success against Montreal over the course of franchise history. They have an active streak in tact, defeating Montreal (one of three NHL teams this holds true: Atlanta, NY Rangers) at least once in each of the franchise seasons.

That's why a game against the Canadiens is on the Games To Watch list.
