Committed To Work

by Staff Writer / Florida Panthers
The intensity continued to rise during day three of Florida Panthers training camp at the IcePlex on Monday morning with the two squads participating in a spirited 45-minute practice, followed by their second Blue-White scrimmage.

“It has been a couple of long days for these players, but they are working hard, the intensity has been great and these guys have come committed to work,” said Head Coach Peter DeBoer. “We have a lot of guys competing for jobs. We told the players at the start of camp, we don’t care how many years you have played in the league or where you have been drafted, everyone is competing for a spot and if you can help us win games you can earn a spot on this team.”
Florida begins their seven-game preseason schedule tomorrow night when they travel to Carolina to take on the Hurricanes at 7 p.m. After Tuesday night’s game in Carolina, the Panthers will travel to Rochester for a game against the Boston Bruins on Thursday, followed by game in Boston (Sept. 25) and in Montreal (Sept. 27).
“With seven preseason games, we will use the first four games to give some ice time to the players we want to take a look at to see if they can make our squad,” said DeBoer. “By the last two we hope to be pretty close to our line-up that we will open the season with in October.”
The White team took the scrimmage 3-0 on Monday with both G Tomas Vokoun and G Scott Clemmensen turning away all the shots they faced during their 25-minutes of action. After practice the Panthers assigned five players to their respective junior clubs: F Alain Berger (Oshawa – OHL), F Corey Durocher (Kingston – OHL), F John McFarland (Sudbury – OHL), D Alexander Petrovic (Red Deer – WHL) and F Garrett Wilson (Owen Sound – OHL).
