Cats Shutout Thrashers 2-0 in Preseason Home Opener

by Staff Writer / Florida Panthers

Playing in the first game at a new arena can be tough for any player, Alex Auld though played silky smooth turning away 28 shots as he backstopped the Florida Panthers to a shutout 2-0 victory.

The first period was full of opportunities as the Cat's out-shot the Atlanta Thrashers 17-8, but both teams were unable to score.

Martin Gelinas used his veteran skills to put the Cats on the board first midway through the second period off assists from Ruslan Salei and Jozef Stumpel.

Jay Bouwmeester would connect later in the second off assists from Stephen Weiss and Nathan Horton in front of a crowded net.

With the shutout, Alex Auld became the first star of the game. Jay Bouwmeester picked up second place honors as Nathan Horton rounded out the top three.
