Thursday: Washington Capitals, 7:00 p.m.
After resting up, the Panthers will get back to work when they host the Capitals (5-0-3) at FLA Live Arena on Thursday. Earning points in eight straight games to start the season, Washington enters the week on the heels of a 2-0 win over the Coyotes on Friday. Needing to make only 16 saves to earn the shutout in that matchup, goaltender Illya Samsonov improved to 3-0-1 with a .904 save percentage. Picking up a point in every game so far this season, Alex Ovechkin leads the Capitals in scoring with 15 points (nine goals, six assists), including notching a goal and an assist against Arizona. Looking strong at both ends of the ice, Washington currently ranks fifth in the league on offense (3.75 goals per game) and tied for seventh on defense (2.38 goals-allowed per game). Leading the Panthers in scoring with 11 points (three goals, eight assists), look for Jonathan Huberdeau to find his way onto the scoresheet in this game. Finding success against Washington throughout his career, he's tallied six goals and 13 assists in 22 games.

Saturday: Carolina Hurricanes, 6:00 p.m.
Two of the top teams in the league will meet when the Panthers welcome the Hurricanes (8-0-0) to FLA Live Arena on Saturday. Going undefeated in the month of October -- but still trailing the Panthers by one point for best record in the league -- Carolina cruises into this week fresh off a 2-1 win against the Coyotes on Sunday. Allowing just 1.50 goals per game, the Hurricanes are currently the top-defensive team in the league. A big part of that success has been the play of goaltender Frederik Andersen. In net for seven of eight games to start the season, he's gone 7-0-0 with a 1.29 goals-against average and a .956 save percentage. Up front, Andrei Svechnikov leads the team in goals (7) and points (11), while Tony DeAngelo has recorded the most assists (7). As the Panthers attempt to establish themselves as the top dog in the Eastern Conference in this matchup, look for captain Aleksander Barkov to lead the charge against Carolina. Riding a four-game point streak entering this week, Barkov, who ranks second on the team in scoring with 10 points (five goals, five assists), has also recorded three goals over his last two games. In 28 career games against the Hurricanes, he's produced 27 points (10 goals, 17 assists).
