Cats fall 4-1 in Part Two of Doubleheader

Nashville, TN – In the second contest of the doubleheader at Bridgestone Arena on Saturday night, the Florida Panthers dropped a 4-1 decision to the Nashville Predators. The Cats were edged 2-1 by the Predators in a shootout during the first game earlier in the day.

In the night cap, Nashville took an early 1-0 lead on a tally from F Pontus Aberg late in the opening frame of action. The Panthers knotted the game at 1-1 midway through the second period, when D Alex Petrovic’s shot from the point beat Nashville netminder Pekka Rinne. D Greg Zanon and F Drew Shore assisted on the goal.

The Predators re-gained the lead late in the middle frame when F Kevin Fiala found the back of the net with the eventual game-winner at 14:41. Nashville built a three-goal lead in the third period, when Aberg recorded his second of the night after he fired a shot past Panthers G Dan Ellis followed by an empty netter from Austin Watson.

In his first action of the preseason, G Roberto Luongo made 16 saves on 18 shots. Ellis stopped 5 of 6 shots in the third period. Panthers F Shawn Thornton recorded 12 penalty minutes in the contest, including two fighting majors.

The Panthers travel to Dallas and will take on the Stars on Monday, Sept. 29 at 8:30 p.m., in the team’s fourth preseason contest.
