Cats D Cory Murphy Named to Team Canada World Hockey Championship Roster

SUNRISE, Fla. – Florida Panthers D Cory Murphy has been selected to play for Team Canada at the 2007 IIHF World Men’s Hockey Championship in Moscow, Russia. Canada opens the World Hockey Championship on Saturday, April 28 against Germany.

Murphy, 29, signed a two-year contract with the Panthers on March 26. Last season, while playing for HIFK Helsinki, he was awarded the Lasse Oksanen–trophy as the Finnish League’s MVP. Murphy scored 50 points (13-37-50) in 45 games played and had a stellar rating of plus-17 to lead all defensemen on HIFK.  

Murphy along with Panthers Head Coach & General Manger Jacques Martin will represent Team Canada at the World Championship, while Rostislav Olesz (Czech Republic) and Ville Peltonen (Finland) will play for their respective countries.
