SUNRISE, Fla. – The Finnish Hockey Association announced today that C Olli Jokinen will join Team Finland to play at the 2006 World Championships that are currently underway in Latvia. Jokinen will be in action on Sunday, May 14 when Finland plays Norway.
Jokinen, 27, most recently represented Team Finland at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, where he earned a Silver Medal. He also represented Finland at the 2004 World Cup, as well as the 2002 Olympics and eight World Championships.
The Kuopio, Finland native paced the Panthers and posted career highs in goals scored (38), assists (51), points (89), power-play goals (14) and game-winning goals (9). His 89 points ranked as the third best single season point total in franchise history, while also becoming just the fourth Cats player in franchise history to record at least 30 goals in a season.
He joins Panthers D Lukas Krajicek (Czech Republic) and Cats prospect C Janis Sprukts (Latvia) who are currently competing in the tournament.
