MONTREAL – The Panthers moved Jay Bouwmeester here early Saturday morning to Calgary in exchange for 28-year-old defenseman Jordan Leopold and the Flames third-round (67th overall) draft pick.
Leopold, the 2002 Hobey Baker Memorial Award winner as the top U.S., collegiate player, is a former teammate of Keith Ballard at the University of Minnesota and played for the U.S., at the recent World Championships.
Leopold, 6-1, 200 pounds, played in 83 games last year while playing for the Avalanche and the Flames, who acquired him in March. He had seven goals and 17 assists. He played only 15 games in 2006-07 due to hernia surgery and a groin injury. He also missed time in 2007-08 with a lacerated leg, hip problem and penumonia.
