TORONTO - The Toronto Maple Leafs traded tough guy Wade Belak to the Florida Panthers on Tuesday in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick in 2008.
Belak had spent parts of the past seven seasons with the Maple Leafs after originally being claimed off waivers from Calgary. He's appeared in 30 games this season, scoring one goal and racking up 66 penalty minutes that includes six fighting majors.
Belak, who plays both forward and defence, is earning US$625,000 this season and will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
In 425 career games with Colorado, Calgary and Toronto, the 31-year-old has 29 points (8-21) and 1,096 penalty minutes.
