The 2018 IIHF World Championship will come to an end this week in Denmark, with five members of the Florida Panthers competing for a shot at a gold medal.
After nearly two weeks of exciting preliminary matches, the quarterfinals of the annual tournament will begin on Thursday, with the big winners being crowned following the championship game on Sunday, May 20.
In Group A, Panthers forwards Evgenii Dadonov and Maxim Mamin have helped Russia to a near-perfect 4-0-1 record, with the duo combining for eight points (4 goals, 4 assists) and a plus-7 rating in five games.
In Group B, Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad and head coach Bob Boughner, who serves as an assistant at the event, have contributed to Canada's early 3-1-1 record. After five games, Ekblad's four points (one goal, three assists) are the second-most among Canadian defensemen.
Also in Group B, Panthers goaltender Harri Sateri has started three of six games for second-place Finland (4-1-1), stopping a combined 48 of 50 shots, including a 30-save performance in a 5-1 win over Canada on Saturday.
The top-four teams from each preliminary group will qualify for the playoff round.
