SUNRISE, Fla. – Beginning with their final home preseason game tonight against the New York Islanders at 7:30 p.m., the Florida Panthers begin a busy week that concludes with the team’s regular season home opener against the Atlanta Thrashers on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. Less than 2,000 tickets remain for the club’s home opener on Saturday evening. “We have an extremely busy schedule of events this week as we get ready for the start of Panthers hockey season and a standing room only crowd on Saturday night,” Panthers President/COO Michael Yormark said. “We hope that our fans share our excitement about the start of the season and we encourage them to get to the game early on Saturday so that they can participate in all the festivities surrounding opening night.”
On Tuesday, Oct. 7, the Florida Panthers Foundation will hold their Second Annual Face-Off Luncheon presented by AvMed Health Plans. The event which is sold out, will be attended by over 400 guests, as well as the entire Panthers team, coaching staff and front office executives. The luncheon will be held at Woodfield Country Club in Boca Raton from 12 pm – 1:30 pm.
On Friday, Oct. 10 the Panthers will hold an “Opening Night Watch Party” at the Billiard Club in the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino beginning at 6 p.m. That evening the Panthers will open up the 2008-09 season when they take on the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh, NC at 7:30 p.m. The party will include drink specials from Bud Light, food specials and live music by “Nobody’s Fault” featuring lead singer Bill Murphy, the PA announcer at the BankAtlantic Center. Stanley C. Panther and the Panthers Ice Dancers will also be in attendance to meet with fans.
On Saturday, Oct. 11 the Panthers host the Atlanta Thrashers in the team’s home opener. The first 15,000 fans in attendance will receive a cow bell courtesy of BankAtlantic. City of Sunrise Commissioners along with VanMurph (founder of the cow bell movement) will all take part in the ceremonial first puck drop. Radio Disney will host a pre-game pep rally on the Saveology Funway, which includes face painters, airbrush tattoo artists, jugglers, stilt walkers and much more. The Publix Kids Korner will also be activated with interactive games and Its Sugar, the first in-arena candy store, will open its’ door for the first time.
