This time the Spokane Chiefs held a 3-0 lead over the Belleville Bulls in each team’s first game of the tournament. Despite the Bulls valiant comeback effort, the Chiefs earned the victory when Levko Koper scored 4:46 into the first overtime.
Spokane jumped out to the 3-0 lead after a period of play. They scored twice in a 2:20 span as Drayson Bowman got them on the board 9:52 into the first and Mitch Wahl scored 12:12 in. Bowman would add his second with 2:55 left in the opening frame.
Belleville would tie it up after two periods of play thanks to three straight of their own. Bryan Cameron scored their first of the game 2:27 into the period. Panthers prospect Shawn Matthias
made the score 3-2 with a power play goal with 5:04 remaining. It was his second straight game playoff game. Cory Tanaka then knotted the score with 56 seconds remaining.
The Bulls would actually take the lead thanks to another Tanaka goal 7:35 into the third period of play, but Bowman finished off the hat trick to tie the score with 2:56 left in regulation.
Heading into overtime, the Bulls were heavily outshot through the first three periods of play, 50-25. And even though they would turn the tide and outshoot the Chiefs 7-4 into the extra session, it didn’t matter as Koper’s shot beat Mike Murphy for the winner.
