SUNRISE, Fla. – Florida Panthers General Manager Jacques Martin announced today D Jay Bouwmeester underwent successful right hip surgery on Tuesday, May 22. Bouwmeester’s rehabilitation from the surgery will take approximately three months and he is expected to be fully recovered for the start of training camp in September.
The third overall pick in the 2002 NHL Draft, Bouwmeester had surgery to repair a small tear in his hip joint. Bouwmeester's rehabilitation time will be approximately three months. Martin said he expects Bouwmeester to be 100 percent at the start of training camp.
Bouwmeester scored a career-high 12 goals last season and led all Panther defensemen with a Plus-23. The 24-year-old added 30 assists and made his first appearance at the NHL All-Star Game.
