The Florida Panthers ECHL minor league affiliate, the Florida Everblades, fell short in Game 1 of the American Conference Finals 4-3 to the Dayton Bombers in triple overtime. The final goal of the game came at 1:23 of the third overtime giving the Bombers a 1-0 series lead.
This game marked the longest played in Everblades history and the 62 Blades shots on goal set the franchise record of most shots on goal in playoff team history.
After a scoreless first period, the Bombers took a commanding 3-0 lead in the second period, scoring three goals within the first 14 minutes. The Blades answered on a power play goal late in the second making it 3-1 Bombers after two periods. In the beginning of the third period, Florida continued its comeback when Brad Zancanaro scored on the power play with Panther prospect David Brine assisting on the goal that cut the Bomber lead down to one. With nearly two minutes left in the third, Vince Bellissimo put a wrist shot past the Bombers goaltender, tying the game at three and sending it to overtime. Panther prospect Adam Taylor assisted on the goal.
Over two periods of overtime later, Brad Farynuk gave the Bombers the 4-3 win just over a minute into the third overtime session.
Game 2 will be at the Germain Arena in Estero, Florida on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
