[Bjugy’s Blog] Feeling good after a big win, dealing with a decorating dilemma

by Staff Writer / Florida Panthers

Things are good right now. We’re coming off a big 6-2 win in Dallas, which is just what we needed to end that road trip. We had some tough games in Pittsburgh and Chicago, but we figured it out that night against the Stars. We kind of had a little sit down as a team and talked about what we needed to do a little better and guys stepped up.

Obviously, Barkov’s injury is unfortunate and we’re going to miss him. Guys are going to have to step up now, but I like the depth of our team. We’ve had scoring come from different lines, which has been big.

It was fun to be able to play on a line with Jagr, though. He’s obviously a very smart, skilled player, so he’s easy to play with. Huberdeau also played a really good game. I mean, those two guys are both really good playmakers, so I’ve got to take advantage of this opportunity to play with them. I’ve got to make the best of it.

Off the ice, I’ve been fishing and trying to get my house together. You know, decorating isn’t really my forte, but my girlfriend has been helping me. My aunt, who’s an interior decorator, has also helped quite a bit. Honestly, I haven’t had much of a say in the decorating, not that I really wanted a say, but more so because I don’t really care how it looks as long as I have somewhere to live. It’s coming together well, though, and everything is basically in the house. I’m down in Fort Lauderdale so I’m enjoying it.

I actually caught a big sailfish and was joking with Willie Mitchell about getting it mounted. Now, I don’t really think I’m joking. I kind of want to do it and put it above the couch. I don’t know how much my aunt and my girlfriend will like that, but I think it’ll bring a nice beachy vibe to the place.

The last movie I saw: I watched “The Intern” last week. I thought it was a good movie and a different type of story. It had Robert DeNiro and I’ve always enjoyed his stuff. He played a little different role in this movie. He’s usually a mean guy, so I kind of enjoyed watching him play a nice older fellow. It was a good movie for all ages.

My last dinner with teammates: We kind of mix up who we eat dinner with on the road. In Chicago, me, Soupy, Montoya and Huby went out to an Italian place and it was pretty good.

The song currently stuck in my head: I listen to a bunch of random music, but I listened to Bones Thugs-n-Harmony on the way to the arena today. That was my last played song. Like I said, it’s pretty random. I’m a big hip-hop guy.

A: My major was business and marketing education. I originally wanted to go to school to be a teacher, but that’s kind of lengthy process, so I didn’t really see that as a possibility. I don’t really know what I want to do after hockey, but I’ve got that major in my back pocket.

A: I’ve had to learn how to be in the right position and not necessarily always be going 100 miles an hour. I’ve learned how to slow it down a little bit and then go, rather than going all the time and skating myself out of position. It’s kind of like a chess game sometimes because if one guy is out of position, the guys that you’re playing against are going to capitalize on it. I’m learning how to be in the right spot at the right time.
