Alexander Petrovic: My Weekend in South Florida

by Alexander Petrovic @AP3392 / FloridaPanthers.com

Welcome to "My Weekend in South Florida," where your favorite Florida Panthers players share how they prefer to spend their free weekends throughout the summer and season while suiting up for the NHL's southernmost franchise.

1. If I have a free weekend in South Florida, I usually spend it…

I usually just go to the beach in Fort Lauderdale. I like to hang out by the water. I really just like to lay low. I don't do anything too crazy.

2. If one of my teammates tags along, it's usually…

There's a lot of us. It's usually guys like Aaron Ekblad, Nick Bjugstad, Mark Pysyk, Vincent Trocheck and Jonathan Huberdeau. We all live around the same area so we do a lot together.

3. I like having them around because…

They're all easy-going guys. We like to give each other a hard time, too. The guys that can handle it usually stick together. I think Bjugy gets it the most, but he's been getting better at defending himself lately. I like giving it to Ekkie a lot, bringing him down a couple levels [laughs].

4. When it's time to grab a bite, I'll head to…

Caffé Europa in Fort Lauderdale. I usually get the gluten-free pasta with pomodoro sauce and double chicken. They've got incredible food there. I'm gluten sensitive, so I started going gluten-free a few years ago and I've been feeling a lot better. I've definitely got a better appetite.

5. If that's not an option, then I'll try…

If it's around breakfast, we usually go to O-B House. That's the go-to, for sure. They take care of us there pretty good. I'm allergic to eggs, so I usually get something with bacon and potatoes.

6. If I hit the beach, I can't forget to bring…

A volleyball. When they put the nets up on the beach, we usually play a bit.

7. My favorite thing about playing hockey in South Florida is…

It's great to wake up and go to the rink in just your T-shirt and shorts - no winter jacket! That's probably one of the more common answers you'd get, but it's obviously one of the best parts. I think you also get a few extra minutes of sleep since you can get out of the house quicker, too.
