from General Manager and Head Coach Jacques Martin
By now I am sure you are aware that Mike Keenan recently resigned his post as general manager of the Florida Panthers. Certainly I will miss both Mike's sharp hockey mind and friendship.
Moving forward, I am both excited and anxious to take over as both general manager and head coach of the Florida Panthers hockey club. Though I'm sure this double-duty will require a great amount of effort and diligence on my part, I feel that I have the necessary tools and enough quality people around me to have success.
I'm sure there will be challenges along the way that will put my 20-plus years of NHL experience to the test. But I must honestly say that I feel very confident in the hockey club we have entering this season. Last year I found out which players were focused on our goals as a hockey club. Then in the offseason we supplemented those players with some solid additions to our team.
I believe very strongly in a first class organization that is respected by our players, fans and staff, as well as people around the league. Part of that class comes from the support of the fans and part of that is the way the team performs and carries itself both on and off the ice.
We have a hockey club here that I trust will conduct itself with class off the ice, while focusing on its on ice goals. That goal is simple: the 2006-07 NHL Playoffs.
I look forward to seeing you on opening night.
