  Zack Kassian

The Lowdown:
   6-3, 210-pounds
   Right wing
   Peterborough (Ontario Hockey League)
   DOB: 1-24-91 – LaSalle, Ontario

The Shinny:
Some have compared Kassian to the Bruins Milan Lucic. Finished second on the Petes in scoring with 63 points (36 goals, 13 on the power play) and finished in the top 20 in the OHL in penalty minutes with 136. Tailed off in the playoffs. Had onl y nine goals in 58 games in his first year with the Petes in 2007-08. Had a goal and assist in OHL All-Star Classic and won a gold medal with Team Canada in the 2008 Ivan Hlinka Memorial.

NHL Central Scouting’s Chris Edwards: “Kassian is one of the toughest guys in the OHL and probably the entire draft. Last season as an under-ager there were overage guys in the league who would not take him on. He has not fought much (in 2008-09 because) he has not had to. He is at his best when he is playing physical and tough along the boards. He protects the puck very well and fights through checks.”

Peterborough head coach Ken McRae: “Zack Kassian is a great kid that loves the game and approaches practices the same way he approaches games, with hard work and intensity. (He’s a) big, tough, right shot power forward with a mean streak. Very heavy shot to go along with high skill level as well as a physical, intimidating sty le of play.”

Kassian on Kassian: “As a hockey player I see myself as an in-your-face type banger, all-around hockey player who goes in the dirty areas and goes to the net hard to get some dirty goals as well.”

Did you know: Kassian’s childhood hockey hero was Bobby Orr.
