The Shinny:
The kid is the goods. The real deal and, according to most sources, will be a No. 1 NHL defenseman for a long time. Playing with men in the Swedish Elite League, Hedman had 21 points (seven goals) in 43 games and earned Rookie of the Year honors. Has represented Team Sweden the past two years in the World Junior Championships. Plays well in his own end and handles the puck well. Not a giant offensive weapon yet, but steady and sturdy.  Patterns his game after Niklas Lidstrom. Close friends with Panthers goalie prospect Jacob Markstrom.

NHL Director of European Scouting’s Goran Stubb: “For being that young, he’s very mature and he’s big, but moves like a smaller guy. Very mobile, and his puck sense is excellent. Hedman is dominating the game, playing on the first defense pair on MODO. He’s playing around 20 minutes per game.

NHL Director of Central Scouting’s E.J. McGuire: “Victor Hedman brings to his game unsurpassed combinations of size, explosiveness in his skating, quickness and offensive ability. He is indeed the whole package and that just might get him the number one selection overall.”

Hedman on Hedman: “I like to play a good two-way game. I like to join the offensive rushes, but I know  I’m a defenseman so I have a responsibility in my own zone. I like to play good offense and defense. I that that’s my style of game, a good two-way game.”

Did you know: Hedman loves flying and hopes to get a pilot’s license in the near future.
