  Matthew Hackett

The Lowdown:
   6-2, 170 pounds
   Plymouth (Ontario Hockey League)
   DOB: 3-7-90 – London, Ontario
   Final rank: 1. Midterm rank: 8 (NA-G)

The Shinny:
Hackett, the top-ranked North American goalie, started the season as a back-up before working his way to the No. 1 spot in November. He led Plymouth to a fourth-place finish in the Western Conference with a 34-15-3 record in 55 games. His .912 save percentage ranked eighth in the OHL. He was named Plymouth’s MVP in the 2009 playoffs, going 6-5 with a 3.01 goals against and .930 save percentage. He faced 40 shots in five of the 11 games. Beat Sarnia in the first-round before bowing out to Windsor in the conference semifinals. He’s the nephew of former NHL goalie and current Colorado goalie coach Jeff Hackett.

NHL Central Scouting’s Al Jensen: “He has great potential, very good size, very poised. His angles, his net positioning are very good. He’s a very smart goaltender with excellent net coverage.”

Plymouth goalie coach Stan Matwijiw: “You look at Matt and he’s a pure goaltender. He’s the type of goaltender that NHL teams are looking for. He’s big in stature and takes up a lot of net. He’s very fundamentally sound. The work that I’ve done with him is tweaking a thing here and there. He’s already had good instruction with his uncle.”

Hackett on Hackett: “I’m not a very talkative guy in the room, but on the ice I am really competitive and I hate losing. Guys can see that and feed off it.”

Did you Know: The three people Hackett would invite to dinner are Ryan Miller, Roberto Luongo and Carey Price.
