  Evander Kane

The Lowdown:
   6-1, 176
   Center
   DOB: 8-2-91 - Vancouver
   Vancouver Giants (Western Hockey League)
   Final rank: 3. Midterm rank: 3 (NA-S)

The Shinny:
After scoring 41 points (24 goals) his rookie season in the WHL, Kane doubled his goal production (48) this season and more than doubled his points (96).  He was named first-team WHL All-Star Team and won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2009 World Championships, recording six points (four assists).

NHL Central Scouting report: “He’s the type of player who doesn’t like being denied access to the net. You can almost see when he’s got the puck he’s going to the net and defying people to stop him. He’ll be a 200-pound forward the National Hockey League. He plays like he’s 6-2, 6-3, bigger than his size.”

Vancouver Giants head coach Don Hay: “From the blue line in he really has a nose for the net; he takes the puck to the net very hard and is very competitive in that area…His biggest improvement is that he always wants to make a difference on the ice. A lot of players that age don’t want to be on the ice, or don’t want to be in that situation when the game is on the line, but Evander wants to be in that situation all the time.”

Kane on Kane: “I don’t try to really play like any special player…But there are some similar players that you could say I play like. One of those guys would be Jarome Iginla. We both like to score goals. He’s not afraid to go to the dirty areas to score those goals.”

Did You Know: Named after his dad’s favorite boxer – Evander Holyfield.
