2008 NHL Draft: Steven Stamkos

by Staff Writer / Florida Panthers
Leading up to the 2008 draft, Flordiapanthers.com will be highlighting some of the top prospects to look out for. Could the Panthers draft one of these players with their pick in the second round or might they move up to grab one of these top players to further bolster their system and hope they contribute to the big club one day?

Each week day, we'll take a look at three prospects and get Panthers Director of Amateur Scouting Scott Luce's opinion on each of them.

WHAT CENTRAL SCOUTING SAYS

Team that takes Stamkos will get one of the fastest skaters in the draft. Goes to the net fearlessly with speed and brings a bit of an edge and a bit of aggressive attitude that every team wants. Projected to play on top line in NHL. Skates away from people and around anybody. The way he goes to the net, and the moves he has to get himself there, set him apart. Just needs to continue to develop. Hockey Canada head scout Al Murray says, “He’s like those Bugs Bunny cartoons. He’s everywhere.”

WHAT PANTHER SCOUT SCOTT LUCE SAYS

Future franchise forward. Excellent player. High character.
