Under the Scope: Oilers vs. Wild

Midway through the opening period, Strudwick took a tripping minor putting the Wild on the power play. Less than a minute into the kill, Horcoff picked up a rebound, passed over to Gilbert who tossed a nice long pass up to Ethan Moreau to snap home a shorthanded goal through the legs of Niklas Backstrom.

1200 Owen Nolan played in his 1,200th NHL game on Sunday.
100 Andrew Brunette tallied his 100th goal in a Wild uniform on Sunday.
30 Dustin Penner gets his 30th goal of the season tonight.

Dustin Penner set the tone for the Oiler club early in the game tonight. Just 1:33 in, Taylor Chorney set up Ryan Potulny who fired a hard wrist shot on net suprising Backstrom. He spat out a juicy rebound right onto Dustin Penner's stick who fired and scored his 30th of the season.

Penner picked up his 30th goal of the season tonight which has not been done since Ryan Smyth a few years ago. Penner added a second goal to make it 31 just six seconds into a four minute double minor power play. Penner scored on a nice one-timer shot to give the Oilers a 4-1 lead. He had four shots on net and finished with a +1. He came close many times to the hat trick but will still have to wait for his first triple goal night.

Minnesota had a 13-game win streak against the Oilers on home ice but is 1-6-1 in the last eight games at Rexall Place, with the lone win coming in a 3-2 victory, 3/29/09. The Wild has 28 wins against the Oilers all-time, more than any other NHL opponent.

"You want to play hard for each other,we've been through a lot together. Whenever you have really good friends and guys you've spilt blood with over the years it's fun to play with."

The Oilers dress for their final home game of the 2009-2010 season against the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday,  April 7th. The puck drops at 7:30pm MDT and will be broadcast on Sportsnet West.
