by Kristi Hennessy / Edmonton Oilers

Oilers and Blues were tied through 40 minutes of play so onto the third period we go. Well just 2:09 into the final frame, Alexander Steen catches Deslauriers off guard as he fired a snap shot over his stick-side shoulder. Just like that the Blues took the lead and would hold onto that lead to pick up the two points.

16.2% Blues are 28th in the league on the power play.

7:44 into the second period, Nilsson sends a nice pass onto the tape of Dustin Penner who fires one high stick-side on Chris Mason. Oilers get on the board first and raise the intensity levels and the energy of the fans.

With the game-winning goal and the first star of the night, it's fair to give the MVP to Alexander Steen.

After two periods of play, the game was knotted at one apiece. Just over two minutes into the final frame, Steen fired a nice snap shot over the shoulder of Deslauriers to give the Blues both the momentum and the lead. Steen improves to 18 points in his last 20 games.

Keith Tkachuk is one of four players still in the NHL who played for the Winnipeg Jets.

With a single penalty minute tonight, Tkachuk could have become just the fourth player in NHL history to record 2200 PIM and 1000 points in a career. He would join Dale Hunter, Pat Verbeek and Brendan Shanahan.

"I don't think they deflated at all. They are in a tough stretch as you guys are all very aware of I'm sure. This is the NHL, you have to learn how to stick with it and grind with it and find ways to win games. Tonight we figured out how to do that."
  - Blues Captain Eric Brewer when asked if he thought the Oilers lost the game and fell apart after Steen's go ahead goal."

"I don't think we played as good as we wanted to but we stuck with it. They came hard at us all night but we were lucky enough to keep them off in the third period."
-Blues Goaltender Chris Mason comments on the win.
