Under the Scope: Oilers vs. Avalanche

by Travis Knee / Edmonton Oilers

The Oilers got out to an early lead and held on in this one. With the score 2-1 for Edmonton in the third period, Taylor Hall scored what turned out to be the winning goal in a 3-2 Edmonton victory.

The win continues some momentum the Oilers created prior to the break and is just the start to a busy week that the team was hoping for.

All you need to know and more as we go Under the Scope:

With the Oilers holding on to a 2-1 lead in the third period, Taylor Hall would provide the insurance needed. Hall would go to the net picking up the rebound off an Ales Hemsky shot and beat Varlamov upstairs for his 17th goal of the season.

Jordan Eberle would open the scoring in this one with a nifty little play. Eberle skated the puck behind the net before quickly stopping, going back the other way to tuck home his 19th of the season past a partially fooled Varlamov.

The Oilers are starting to get healthy and with Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle back and scoring, things may look a little better for the Oilers over the final 32 games. Tonight Taylor Hall would score his 17th of the season, the game's winning goal as the Oilers held on for the win.

Playing in his third straight game, Devan Dubnyk was solid again tonight picking up another victory. He made some key saves including a few late with the Avalanche pressing for the tie. He would stop 31 of 33 shots in all for the 3-2 win.

Tonight's win was the first regulation win for the Oilers at Rexall Place in over a month. The last regulation win at home was a 4-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild on December 22.

"It was nice to get that one and hold on in the end. Nice to get the win."
