Under the Scope: Oilers 6, Blue Jackets 4

by Kristi Hennessy / Edmonton Oilers

When former Oiler Jason Chimera scored at 11:52 of the seond period, the entire building thought that the game was over.  The Blue Jackets were now up 4-1 on the Oilers. Just when we thought they were down and out, Penner answered back 17 seconds later to cut the lead to 4-2. This gave the Oilers the momentum they needed to get the ball victory!

OILERS - Penner was doing everything right tonight against the Jackets. He got his 14th point of the season with two goals and assisted on three others for a five point night. Penner's second goal came on the powerplay to tie the game 4-4 in the third.

Ales Hemsky also had five points on the night with a goal and 4 helpers. His nice wrist shot goal came on the PP with a minute left in the second frame.

Sam Gagner had a goal and two assists with his goal coming under a minute into the game.

BLUE JACKETS - Kristian Huselius' first goal came with only 4 minutes left in the opening frame. His second was a one timer into the back of the net on a great set up from Voracek.
Jakub Voracek assisted on two goals tonight with a +2.

Oilers finally caught up and took the lead 5-4 with 9:17 left in the game thanks to Visnovsky. Khabibulin took a tripping penalty three minutes later putting the Blue Jackets on the powerplay.  With Huselius looking for a hat trick, Khabi had to be big. Making big saves on Voracek and Stralman's shots and two more from Umberger who tried to jam it in. He stood on his head and kept the Oilers on top 5-4.

With the game-winning goal, we're going to have to go with Lubomir Visnovsky for the 4th star of the game. Visnovsky scored the go-ahead slapshot  goal with 9:17 to go in the game. The goal gave him three points on the night adding to his two assists.

The last time that two Oilers players each got five points in the same game was back in 1988. It was Edmonton vs. Toronto  on November 19, 1988. The Oilers won 9-1 and Glenn Anderson and Jimmy Carson each racked up five points.

"I think there is a difference in this locker room. We believe that we can come back no matter what. We're scoring timely goals and feeding off the crowd and momentum in the building." -- Dustin Penner on the overall feeling in the room.

"Things are going my way right now. Feels pretty good. If you've seen the movie 'Old School', when he's doing gymnastics and he says, I blacked out what happened? It's sort of like that." -- Penner chuckled about having 14 points on the season.
