The Edmonton Oilers have signed three draft picks to NHL entry level contracts.
Left wing Liam Reddox
was signed to a three-year contract and Swedish centres Jonas Almtorp and Fredrik Johansson were signed to two-year contracts.
Reddox, the Oilers 5th choice (4th round, 112th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, completed his third full season with the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League in 2005-06. The 511", 180-pound winger from Whitby, Ontario, finished fifth in scoring on the Peterborough roster with 19-45-64 in 68 games as he capped his junior career with an OHL championship and a trip to the Memorial Cup tournament.
Reddox scored 5-9-14 with 20 PIM in 19 OHL playoff games and added an assist in four games at the Memorial Cup tourney. In 208 career games with the Petes, the 20-year-old forward tallied 86-124-210 and had 136 PIM. He also netted 8-19-27 in 33 career playoff games. He twice scored 30-or-more goals in a season with 31 in 2003-04 and a career best 36 in 2004-05, when he registered a career-high 82 points in 68 games.
Almtorp joins the Oilers organization following seven seasons of hockey in his native Sweden. The 61", 190-pound centre from Uppsala, Sweden, scored 6-6-12 with 42 PIM in 50 games with Brynas IF Gavle of the Swedish Elitserien in 2005-06. The 22-year-old forward has played parts of five seasons in the top Swedish league with MoDo and Brynas IF Gavle. He also played junior hockey with the MoDo organization and scored 67-39-106 in 101 games from 1999-00 to 2003-04. Almtorp has twice been a member of a Swedish national team, representing his country at the World Under 18 Championship in 2001 and the World Junior Championship in 2003. He was the Oilers seventh selection (4th round, 111th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Johansson, Edmontons 14th choice (9th round, 274th overall) in 2002, has played the last two seasons with Vasteras IK in the Hockey Allsvenskan league in Sweden. The 60", 187-pound centre scored 7-15-22 with 26 PIM in 41 games during the 2005-06 season and had 15-15-30 in 46 games in 2004-05. A member of Swedens national junior team at the 2004 World Junior Championship, he also played two seasons in the Swedish Elitserien with Vastra Frolunda HC in 2002-03 and 2003-04.
