The Oilers made one roster move Friday before practice, assigning defenceman Griffin Reinhart to the Bakersfield Condors. Reinhart, 22, was taken fourth overall by the Islanders in 2012, and Edmonton acquired him via trade at the 2015 NHL Draft.
When it comes to what the Oilers need to see from their young defensive prospect, it's general improvement. Until then, Reinhart will have to earn his way back to Edmonton.
"I think he has to improve his game to be a National Hockey League player in every area," said Oilers Head Coach Todd McLellan. "Faster, stronger, reads, he's got to get down to the American League now and understand that he's got some work to do to get back here. That was the message that was delivered to him. He'll accept it well and he'll go there and work hard and he'll do the things he needs to do to get here."
