The Edmonton Oilers have placed defenceman Sheldon Souray on the NHL Injured Reserve List and recalled defenceman Ladislav Smid from the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League.
Souray was placed on the NHL Injured Reserve List retroactive to October 13th after suffering a degree sprain of his left shoulder in the Oilers’ game at Vancouver. He has missed the Oilers’ last three games (October 18th to 23rd) due to the injury. In six games prior to the injury, Souray scored a goal and an assist with nine penalty minutes.
Smid rejoins the Oilers after beginning the season with Edmonton’s American Hockey League affiliate. Assigned to Springfield on October 2nd, the second-year defenceman has scored a goal and four assists in eight games and is tied for fourth on the Falcons’ scoring list. The leading scorer among Springfield defencemen, Smid is tied for fourth on the team in assists and is +3 with 15 penalty minutes.
In his rookie season with the Oilers in 2006-07, Smid scored 3-7-10 with 37 PIM in 77 games.
