Oh boy, it’s getting pretty exciting here in Oil Country! The players are slowly trickling into town, Rogers Place is so close to being open, we’ve got new Snapchat accounts for you to follow, and our fans are gearing up for the new season! Enjoy our weekly social media roundup.
#ROGERSPLACEIt’s happening! Opening week of Rogers Place has arrived, with the Public Open House in partnership with the City of Edmonton slated for Saturday, Sept. 10! Another major milestone was held this week as a handful of Oilers and some lucky minor hockey players christened the brand new ice surface. Connor McDavid had the honour of being the first player to carve his skates on the fresh sheet, and even though his new teammate Milan Lucic wasn’t in town yet, he made sure to share his excitement via Twitter!
Speaking of Lucic, he helped his former team the Vancouver Giants
welcome their new season by presiding over their annual Legends Cup, which just happened to feature Giants captain and 2016 Oilers second-round draft pick Tyler Benson! Meanwhile, Nail Yakupov logged some final vacation time in Banff before heading north to Edmonton get his season going, Jesse Puljujärvi’s bags are packed and he’s ready to go, and Pat Maroon sent some birthday love to his son Anthony.
Love Snapchat? We have two new accounts you must follow! Our whacky affiliate friends down in Bakersfield launched their brand new account this week (BAK_Condors), and get ready for some exclusive content from the new arena by following rogersplace, which we’ll officially launch at the Open House on Sept. 10.
