Welcome to the Halloween edition of the Oilers social media blog! It’s been a spook-tacular week in Oil Country as we celebrated a huge come-from-behind win over Montreal on Thursday and geared up for a Halloween night Battle of Alberta, with the team wearing their throwback orange jerseys for the second time this season.
Oilers fans sure love their team, and they also love Halloween, which made for some great pumpkin and costume photos throughout the week. We put the call out for fans to create Oilers jack-o-lanterns and send us a photo of their finished product for a chance to have it featured as our Twitter avatar. Congrats to @jacquesk420
for submitting the top pumpkin! Keep using #HockeyHalloween
when you post your Oilers-themed Halloween content!
To celebrate the launch of NHL16, EA Sports sent a film crew to Edmonton last month and recruited Oilers forwards Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, Teddy Purcell, Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to test out the game, with big-time bragging rights on the line. We also hooked up 30 lucky Oilers fans with exclusive Hockey Ultimate Team (HUT) Oilers pack codes – congrats to our #OilersHUT
GIF OF THE WEEK
Thursday’s come-from-behind win over Montreal led to some epic player celebrations, especially from Benoit Pouliot following his equalizer and Leon Draisaitl after his eventual game-winner. Our expert GIF creator @myregularface
captured both moments perfectly, and we’re giving them co-GIF of the week prestige! As always, feel free to tweet your GIF requests to me (@ryanfrankson
) or the main team account (@edmontonoilers
) and we’ll do our best to make it happen!
OIL COUNTRY SPOTLIGHT
Winter is coming, and that means plenty of Oil Country gentlemen will be keeping their faces warm with a bushy beard… whether they can grow one or not! Thanks to Peggy McNamara who snapped this shot of her son and grandson with their matching toques and facial hair, and posted it on our Facebook page to earn this week’s fan spotlight honour! Got a photo you want to share? Post it on our Facebook page like Peggy did or tag @edmontonoilers in your tweet and/or Instagram post!
