The Oilers social media blog keeps rolling along as we’re a quarter of the way into the season. On tap this week, we check in on a contest we’re running in partnership with Sportsnet, flash back to a memorable goal scored by an Oilers prospect who’s set to make his NHL debut tonight, and feature fan photos in our #OilCountry
Spotlight. Check back next Saturday as we start celebrating the #HockeyHolidays
and fill you in on how you can win an Oilers holiday prize pack!
We’re closing in on the end of Week 3 of the #BrightestStars
Showdown presented by @Sportsnet
, where we pit the top two Oilers highlights from the past week against each other. It’s up to the fans to pick their favourite play, and everyone who shares their vote on Twitter or Facebook is entered to win a weekly prize pack (like Kenadi did in Week 1) and has a chance to win the grand prize of an Oilers suite experience! to vote in this week’s matchup between Draisaitl and Eberle.
With Oilers prospect Jujhar Khaira (@jujhar94
) set to make his NHL debut tonight as the Oilers visit the Pittsburgh Penguins, we’re throwing it back to 2014 Orientation Camp in Jasper as the big forward showed off some impressive one-handed skills in the shootout portion of the Billy Moores Cup intrasquad game. I was pretty fortunate to be in the right place at the right time to capture the dandy move and toss it up on Instagram, slo-mo style.
GIF OF THE WEEK
The Oilers took the Detroit Red Wings to overtime on Friday night, unfortunately dropping a 4-3 decision in sudden death. However, they did get a breakthrough performance from winger Iiro Pakarinen, who tallied two of their three goals on the night. The Finnish forward sniped home his fourth-career goal in the third period last night to send the game to OT, and he was justly rewarded with some good ole-fashioned hockey hugs. Got a GIF request? You can tweet them to me (@ryanfrankson
) or @edmontonoilers
, and we’ll do our best to make it happen!
OIL COUNTRY SPOTLIGHT
It’s been a tough road trip for the Oil thus far, but you can always count on the Oil Country faithful to rally around their team, just like these fans did this past week. Oilers fan Jacey made sure newborn son Ryder had the appropriate attire as he watched his first Oilers game on his papa’s lap, while the father-son theme continued thanks to a photo from Kyra Jones. The youth movement was in full effect this week as Alexia also shared a snapshot of her daughter all toque’d up and ready for her pre-game meal. Remember, you can get your photos into our spotlight by including @edmontonoilers in your tweets and Instagram posts, or posting them on our Facebook page.
