It’s Saturday in Oil Country and that means it’s time to get social again! It’s been a busy week on our social channels, with the team playing its annual road trip while the Canadian Finals Rodeo takes over Rexall Place. We also recognized Remembrance Day, enjoyed one of the greatest Oilers selfies ever and celebrated the birthday of our current leading scorer. Enjoy our weekly recap!

This past Wednesday was Remembrance Day in Canada (as well as Veterans Day in the United States) as the nation honoured all the men and women who have or are currently serving in the Armed Forces. It’s also a day to reflect and acknowledge those lost their lives while doing so. We made sure we communicated that sentiment on all our social accounts, including putting a poppy on our profile image, and our players also paid their respects.

Every so often we come across a fan photo so awesome we’re left with no choice but to share it with the masses! That happened this past week thanks to Trevor Payne, who attended our most recent home game against the Penguins and got this phenomenal selfie with Darnell Nurse during pre-game warmup.

We posted Trevor’s photo on our Facebook page and Oil Country loved it so much it became the second-highest post for engagement in the NHL last week. Kudos to Trevor, and kudos to all of you for your likes, comments and shares!

The Oilers captured sweet victory in overtime on Wednesday night against the Anaheim Ducks, with Teddy Purcell scoring a pretty backhand deke breakaway goal during the 3-on-3 session. The Newfoundland native had been a bit snake-bit on the scoresheet, with only a couple tallies on 33 shots heading into the game. He made no mistake in OT, though, roofing his backhand and celebrating accordingly. The Oil Country faithful in attendance were loving the win as well!

We’ve been working with popular hockey GIF creator @myregularface this season to bring you all the top highlights in GIF more just moments after they happen. Hopefully you’re enjoying them! Got a GIF request? You can tweet them to me (@ryanfrankson) or @edmontonoilers, and we’ll do our best to make it happen!

Today (Saturday) happens to be Taylor Hall’s 24th birthday, and after we sent our b-day wishes to the winger on Twitter, Oilers fans were quick to get in on the action. When Chase Robinson informed his son it was Taylor’s b-day, he tossed on his number 4 jersey (or possibly already had it on) and made a card for his favourite player.

Do you have a photo we need to see for our weekly spotlight? Post it on our Facebook page or tag @edmontonoilers in your tweet and/or Instagram post!
