Hello, Oil Country, and welcome to another instalment of our weekly social media blog! This week features all kinds of international flavour as three Oilers celebrated winning gold medals with Team Canada at the IIHF World Championship, one visited China, and another was selected to participate at the World Cup of Hockey coming up in September. As always, we’ve also got top GIFs and featured fan photos. Enjoy!

We couldn’t be more proud of Connor McDavid, Taylor Hall, Cam Talbot and the entire Canadian team for capturing the top prize at #IIHFWorlds, which concluded with the gold-medal game on Sunday. McDavid scored the game-winning goal and Talbot turned aside all 16 shots he faced as Canada blanked Finland 2-0 to secure the title. Our Oilers took to Twitter and Instagram to celebrate the big win.

World Champs with the pops!

One of the Oilers who captured gold with Team Canada in Russia decided to make a pit-stop on his way home, as McDavid spent some time in China this week. The 2016 Calder finalist visited China Central Television during their broadcast of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and later took a trek to the Great Wall of China.

The Oilers could have had a fourth player capture World Championship gold with Team Canada, but unfortunately Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had to turn down the invite in favour of continuing to rehab his hand, which was broken on a blocked shot in January. RNH did, however, get some great news on Friday as he was named to Team North America for this September’s World Cup of Hockey. The Nuge joins McDavid on the U-24 squad comprised of the top young players from Canada and the United States. Oilers bench boss Todd McLellan is also the head coach of Team NA.

There were so many amazing GIF moments from Canada’s gold-medal win at the World Championship! Here are some of our faves.

Oilers fans are all over the world right now! Coady Morrison said bonjour from Paris in his Oilers gear while Ingrid Letendre was repping The Nuge in Colombia. Huge thanks to both of these Oil Country ambassadors for posting their photos on our Facebook page! Want to see your photo or video in our spotlight next week?
