It’s the IIHF World Championship medal games edition of our weekly Oil Country social media roundup! We started the tournament with seven Oilers representing their respective countries, and five are left competing for medals on Sunday. Also this week, we get you caught up on all things Rogers Place and shine the spotlight on some of our favourite fan posts. Enjoy!
Semifinal Saturday at #IIHFWorlds
did not disappoint as Cam Talbot, Connor McDavid, Taylor Hall and @HockeyCanada
edged Matt Hendricks, Patrick Maroon and @USAHockey
4-3 to advance to Sunday’s gold medal match against Finland, while the Americans will play Russia for bronze. Talbot was impressive once again with 30 saves, while McDavid picked up his eighth assist of the tournament, named one of Canada’s top three players at the tournament. Good luck to all five Oilers players battling for medals on Sunday!
GIFS OF THE WEEK
Cam was the man once again for Canada during Saturday’s World Championship semifinal win over the Americans! The Oilers goalie turned aside 30 of the 33 shots he faced, including a few absolute gems.
We had not one but TWO big concert announcements to close out the week, as Florida Georgia Line and Drake will be two of the first acts to perform at #RogersPlace
this fall. We’re also keeping you updated on the installation of the massive scoreboard, and the second episode of ICE Level was released, featuring Winter Garden signature artist Alex Janvier. Keep tabs on our Twitter
for all the latest updates!
OIL COUNTRY SPOTLIGHT
Oilers fans got into the #IIHFWorlds
spirit this weekend, especially Erik’s three-year-old son Ben doing his best Cam Talbot impression with #TeamCanada
. Meanwhile, Jim Linton bumped into The Great One
at the Los Angeles International Airport and, like a true Oil Country loyalist, had his #99 jersey shirt handy for an autograph! Want to see your photo or video in our spotlight next week? Remember to include @edmontonoilers
in your tweets and Instagram posts, or upload them on our Facebook page
